Smellmaxxing is the looksmaxxing branch that ignores your jaw and works your scent: cologne, deodorant, soap, breath, clean clothes, the whole olfactory footprint. It blew up on TikTok in 2024, teen boys raiding Sephora for Sol de Janeiro mists. Strip the meme and it's the one looksmax that's actually free of cope. You smell like a person who has it together, or you don't.
step 2 - the science
Smell wires straight into the limbic system, no logic filter in between. Rachel Herz, who literally wrote The Scent of Desire (2007), shows odor drives emotion and memory harder than any other sense. Herz and McCall (2007) found people rate a face as more attractive when paired with a pleasant scent. So your smell quietly edits how someone reads your whole presence before they decide why.
