The ogee is an S-shaped double curve - convex flowing into concave. The word comes from architecture: think the wavy edge of a Gothic arch. On a face, it's the side-profile line that runs from your cheekbone, bulges out over the malar fat, then sweeps in toward the hollow under it. A full, smooth ogee reads as youthful and high-status. A flat or sunken one reads tired.

The term jumped from buildings to faces through cosmetic surgery, not a single famous study. Surgeon Sam Hamra popularized the "ogee curve" in facelift literature around the 1990s as the ideal cheek contour to restore. So treat this as borrowed vocabulary, not hard biology - it's a shape surgeons name to describe what aging flattens, not a measurement with a clean cutoff like a ratio does.
