Your maxilla is the upper jaw bone holding your top teeth, and it forms the floor of your eye sockets, your cheekbones, and the bottom of your nose. Maxillary position just means how far forward and up that bone sits. the claim
The hype traces to orthotropics, a fringe theory from British orthodontists John and Mike Mew. They argue tongue posture and chewing pull the maxilla forward during growth, giving you that wide, forward-grown face. The catch: mainstream orthodontics largely rejects it. The British Orthodontic Society distanced itself, and Mike Mew was stripped of his GDC registration in 2023. When the science is this contested, treat the promises as marketing, not fact.
