the setup
hunter eyes are the looksmaxxing ideal for the eye region: deep-set, with a low, heavy brow bone that hoods the upper lid, slightly narrow openings, and a positive canthal tilt (outer corner sitting higher than the inner). think the predatory, half-lidded stare - hence 'hunter.' the opposite is 'prey eyes': round, wide, exposed, upward-tilted. it's basically a vibe turned into a checklist of bone and lid.
where it came from
this isn't a study - it's forum slang. the term grew out of incel/looksmaxxing boards in the late 2010s and the PSL rating culture, not a lab. the underlying pieces are real anatomy (canthal tilt, orbital depth, brow projection are measurable), but 'hunter eyes' as a desirability tier is a coinage with no peer-reviewed backing. attractiveness research finds eye-region effects, but nothing that crowns this exact bundle.
