Know what gatekeeping actually is
Gatekeeping is the process of culling countless bits of information down to the few messages that actually reach you. Kurt Lewin coined it in 1943 studying how food reached the dinner table, noting food doesn't move by its own impetus, it passes through gates controlled by a decider. Same logic runs every feed, group chat, and friend circle you're in. It's not a vibe, it's a documented filtering mechanism.
Clock the 'Mr. Gates' bias
David Manning White ran the foundational study in 1950: he tracked a single wire editor (codename Mr. Gates) and found he rejected roughly nine-tenths of incoming stories. His reasons were brutally subjective: personal taste, mood, what he 'didn't like.' Lesson: whoever filters your information is running their own gut, not objective truth. The bouncer's preferences become your reality.
