Forward Facial Growth

the looksmaxxing theory that says your jaw should sit forward, not down

Grounded in the research on Orthotropics / John Mew; Wikipedia 'Orthotropics' and 'Looksmaxxing'

step 1 - name it

Forward facial growth is the looksmaxxing claim that a well-developed face grows up and forward - jaw, cheekbones and maxilla sitting toward the front - instead of dropping down and back. The 'good' version reads as a defined jaw, full cheekbones and a wide palate. The 'bad' version (downward growth) reads as a long, recessed, soft face. That's the pitch. Now the science.

step 2 - check the origin

This traces to British orthodontist John Mew and his 'orthotropics' theory from the 1970s-80s, carried on by his son Mike. Their claim: posture, chewing and tongue position steer how your face grows. Be clear - mainstream orthodontics never accepted this. The British Orthodontic Society and the GDC stripped John Mew's license in 2017. So you're learning a fringe theory, not settled dental science.
