Audience Capture
your audience starts as your mirror and ends as your warden

so what even is this?
audience capture is when you set out to influence an audience and the audience ends up influencing you. you post a version of yourself, the crowd rewards one slice of it, so you serve more of that slice. repeat a few thousand times and the mask fuses to your face. you didn't pick who you became. the algorithm and your comment section voted, and you slowly agreed.
where did it actually come from?
the term was coined by writer Gurwinder Bhogal in a 2022 essay, 'The Perils of Audience Capture.' so heads up: it's a sharp popularizer's framing, not a peer-reviewed construct. but it sits on solid ground — operant conditioning. the crowd's likes are reinforcement, you're the rat, and you press whatever lever paid out last time. Bhogal's point is the feedback loop runs both ways without you noticing.
