so what even is this?
anthropometry is just the science of measuring the human body in numbers, faces included. width, height, angles, ratios, in millimeters and degrees instead of vibes. it's the parent discipline behind every looksmaxxing buzzword you've seen, your canthal tilt, your fWHR, your bizygomatic width. all of those are anthropometry with a edgy username. strip the lingo and it's a tape measure pointed at a skull.
where did it actually come from?
Alphonse Bertillon, Paris police, 1880s. he built 'bertillonage', a system of 11 body measurements to ID repeat criminals before fingerprints existed. measure the head, the ear, the foot, file the card. it kind of worked until two different men matched too closely and fingerprints made it obsolete. the field then got hijacked for race 'science' and eugenics, which is exactly why measuring faces carries baggage today.
