Zeigarnik Effect

your brain refuses to shut up about anything you started and didn't finish.

Grounded in the research on the zeigarnik effect

[ ] the open tab

unfinished tasks stick in your head way harder than finished ones. the second you START something and stop, your brain flags it open and keeps it loaded in working memory — nagging you — until you close the loop. done = your brain drops it. open = it follows you home.

[ ] the waiter study

bluma zeigarnik, 1927, working under kurt lewin in berlin. lewin clocked that waiters could recall unpaid (open) orders in perfect detail, then couldn't once the bill was settled. zeigarnik ran the experiments at the university of berlin: interrupted tasks got recalled way better than finished ones.
